PENCILNECK
Originally, Pencilneck was set to be an ongoing mob soap opera starring Jonathan as a recluse who becomes a vigilante stuck in the middle. However, in considering funding and art staff duties, it was decided that the story had to have a decisive beginning, middle, and end. This meant forgoing an ongoing series and sticking to a definitive mini-series.
Further research and financial planning for the project has guided us to publish the series as a four issue, 130+ page, trade paperback book. This was done for three reasons:
1) We can focus all marketing and advertising costs into one successful push through Diamond distributing, rather than four separate occurrences.
2) Retailers would rather stock a completed story shown as one trade instead of rolling the dice on an independent book that may, or may not, ship according to schedule.
3) A completed four-issue story would prove to be an excellent addition to any portfolio because it would show that the book’s team are able to tell, not only a single issue, but an entire story arc as well.
Project Outline:
The project is over a year in the making and we are over the halfway point in finishing the tale of Jonathan Kincaid. Upon a recommendation from several other creators we were guided to Comixpress, a company that will print single issues on an individual basis with no overhead inventory costs. In order to help generate word of mouth on the series we have decided to publish the single issues through Comixpress so that people can follow the story as the artwork is finished.

Jeff Blazcyk (artist for the series) is currently attending basic training, but will be back to finish the rest of the series by the third and fourth quarter of 2007. Check out the preview and please tell your friends and local comic book retailers what you think.
