ABOUT PAPERSTREET COMICS

PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE

Why we are here

The main reason why this project was started is because, be it comics or film, no one person can take on an industry. We believe, through the concentrated efforts of a group working towards a common goal, we can find a foothold in whatever we set out to accomplish.

As in any business, the key to success is networking and communication. If a web of artists, creators, and contacts can be estrablisheed to continuously support and promote one another, we can create a buzz that will eventually be heard by interested backers and investors. Everyone in Paperstreet is constantly creating because they love the process and are working towards making a career out of it. If you are an artist that wants to aid in the cause or like what you see from the individuals on this site, then drop us a line and we will be in touch.

How it all began

Paperstreet started in an underground film class at Arizona State University in the Fall of 1998. We say underground because no one knew the course existed and the classes were held off campus in a closed down elementary school. Due to the number of cameras available, only 12 students were admitted into the yearly class (in a school with over 35K students) and out of those, only three had the determination to produce and finish films. Those three were Gentry Smith, Jonathan Inge, and Victor Carungi.

The entire filmmaking process was incredible because of the symmetry involved with people helping each other out in every way possible. It was anticipated that the same philosophy would work in the field of comics. From day one Victor has always hoped to work in the industry and after receiving his diploma he was ready to set those ideas in motion.

The hurdle

DEBT – Victor had amassed significant amounts of debt from producing his independent films, and with the impending college loan payments, he needed an elevated income. This meant utilizing his degree in Business by taking a job with a decent salary in Chicago, Illinois. Four years with a great company meant that most of his debt was paid off and he even secured extra savings to aid in creative projects such as Paperstreet, the comic book “Pencilneck”, and various videos that you can find throughout the website. Victor now resides in Wausau Wisconsin, where he continues his work during the day and spends his evenings writing.

Where we are going

After spending the better part of two years trying to find the proper talent necessary to make Pencilneck a reality, Victor has finally assembled the right crew. Issues one and two are already out and available for purchase with issues three and four scheduled to be released in the third and fourth quarter of 2007 (we are waiting for our artist to return from basic training).

Once finished, we will work towards getting signed with one of the larger comic book publishing houses to help us release the trade paperback, which will have at least 20 pages of extra pages and features.

Other projects in the works include The Elite – a comic book based on a reality television show where contestants compete for the ultimate prize: a chance to win your own powers and be a member of the next great super hero team. We are currently accepting submissions for any pencil or ink artists that may be interested in working with us. Please see our submissions page for details.
